Nairobi National Park gave me a great first taste at Africa. It is the only national park in the world that is in the center of a city (yes, urban areas surround all directions of the park). It can be surprising to see how close these thousands of animals–including the predators–are to the busy streets of Nairobi. The park, though, serves a huge purpose in educating students and the public to those who often times don’t realize that they co-exist with these animals.

For those who can’t handle being in a very bumpy jeep all day but still want to safari, Nairobi National Park is the perfect place for a short day trip. It might not feel entirely as though Africa reaches to the horizon (this being because of the city nearby) but it’s definitely a class 1 safari experience worth while.
